Frequently Asked Questions

Find immediate clarity on GVG programme guidelines, selection mechanisms, non-refundable aid, and fraud prevention.

Q:What is the Grant for Vulnerable Groups (GVG)?

The Grant for Vulnerable Groups (GVG) is a flagship Federal Government social protection intervention administered under the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA). It provides non-refundable financial grants and assistive tools to Nigeria's most vulnerable populations, including PWDs, senior citizens, widows, and disaster victims.

Q:Do beneficiaries have to pay back the GVG grant?

No. GVG grants are 100% non-refundable social equity grants. They are not loans. Beneficiaries are encouraged to deploy the funds to sustain their basic needs, purchase medicines, or build sustainable micro-livelihoods.

Q:Is there an age limit to qualify for GVG?

No. The GVG programme has no officially stated age limit. Vulnerability takes precedence — from vulnerable orphans and displaced youth to elderly citizens aged 80 and above.

Q:How are beneficiaries identified and selected?

Beneficiaries are drawn directly from the verified National Social Register (NSR) compiled through Community-Based Targeting (CBT) by NASSCO. Local Government Area Social Development Desks and verified civil society partners also assist in identifying marginalized citizens who are off the digital grid.

Q:How do Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) access assistive devices?

During biometric verification and profiling, individual disability profiles (mobility, visual, auditory, speech) are documented. Appropriate assistive aids such as wheelchairs, white canes, hearing aids, and tricycles are dispatched through state distribution hubs.

Q:Can internally displaced persons (IDPs) without bank accounts receive grants?

Yes. In collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria and licensed Mobile Money Operators (MMOs), GVG provides mobile wallet cash-out vouchers and agent-led over-the-counter payments for unbanked IDPs.

Q:How is transparency maintained during disbursements?

Every transaction is audited via National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN) cross-matching. Independent civil society monitors and community grievance redress committees observe all disbursement exercises.

Q:How can I report extortion or fraud regarding GVG?

NSIPA maintains an anti-fraud whistleblowing desk reachable at support@gvg.gov.ng. GVG enrollment and cash disbursements are 100% free; anyone demanding payment or kickbacks should be reported immediately.
